Depicting two birds in military uniform and representing figures from the Franco-Prussian War (1870-1871). The eagle (Prussia) is looking heroic and proud while the cockerel (France) is looking battered with amputated arms and wooden leg.
A most amusing, unusual and rare pair of figurines designed by Jules Wièse and made by the famous French Maison Froment-Meurice. Hallmarks, Minerva for silver, Fromant-Meurice makersmark and signed fully Fromant-Meurice.
A great set and very amusing. A true conversation piece when your guests gathered around the dining table……
